Have you seen our new MUSC Children’s Hospital magnets we’re now selling at our Mt. Pleasant and West Ashley stores? For only $5, these adorable magnets for your car, fridge or anywhere you want to stick them benefit the MUSC Children’s Hospital Volunteer Advisory Committee (VAC), which provides grants to departments within the Children’s Hospital for direct patient care needs.

Last year, the VAC distributed more than $12,000 to Hospital departments, including Ozzie’s Project, which is a support and normalization program for patients on isolation. The program used $1,300 from the VAC grant last year to continue providing therapeutic resources for the children, which reduce the isolation they experience during their treatment. Since the project began two years ago through VAC funding, approximately 40 patients per month have benefited from various components of Ozzie’s Project. Another project, the Children’s Hospital Bereavement Program, received $1,000 to continue its Passages Program, which provides supplies for hand molds and materials to aid in the grieving process. The VAC is eager to continue funding all programs, which have a strong impact on families, patients and the Children’s Hospital staff.
